A house policy is a document containing general information on the manner in which the business is operated. It should outline the business philosophy and what the business intends to achieve in relation to atmosphere, entertainment, patron enjoyment and customer service.
The creation and adoption of a house policy is an excellent strategy to encourage responsible service of alcohol practices from staff. By displaying some of the more significant points in the policy the business can also make a clear statement to patrons about how the business is run and what type of behaviour will and will not be tolerated.
A house policy provides staff with a ‘Code of
Practice’ and broadly outlines what is acceptable and unacceptable at an establishment.
New liquor regulations require any premises licensed after
Midnight to have a house policy
in the prescribed form. The following are the areas that must be addressed;

policy of the premises but procedures
that the staff must follow to comply
with this policy statement. The
document produced by BARS Training
Australia are comprehensive and run into
20 to 25 pages in length depending on
the size and license type of the venue.
Schedule of Service
Qualified staff will attend your premises and conduct an audit to establish house policy requirements and overview current procedures developed to enhance harm minimisation on the licensed premises. An initial consultation will be necessary with the licensee/nominee for around 90 minutes to aid in this process and is included in the schedule of fees outlined below. Once payment has been received the premises will receive the following;

An initial draft of the house policy (in pdf format) for approval;

A final draft of the house policy (in pdf format);

A bound full colour hard colour version of the house policy;

Form 25 (Notification of House Policy);

Notice to patrons;

A commitment from BARS Training Australia to make any necessary changes to the document free of charge should this be necessary due to legislative and license change.
Schedule of Fees
The one off fee for the development of the house policy including the services outlined above is $495 (+GST)
